California stress - wrong time, bad economy, or what else may it be?

It's already the fifth day of me looking for a job and I still can't find anything. I am absolutely stunned especially that last year on the second day after I arrived to Colorado I had 2 jobs in my hands and I even arrived later than this year.
And here is what I have this year...Or don't have yet actually...
I already applied for so many positions - starting from Starbucks with 8$/hour and Abercrombie&Fitch clothing-store to the promotion-sales position with almost 20$/hour and I am not hearing back from anywhere at all. It really makes me stressed out, especially that I start running really low on my own money.
What is the reason?? I have no idea. Looks like many places that would logically like to hire employees, are not doing so. Maybe the economy in the States is going too bad.
What should I do really?? I don't know... Tomorrow I am trying more places and I so pray that I will find some job finally...
