Scandalous flash-mob:)

>> Tuesday, January 29, 2008

Below is a funny (and quite peculiar) video of a flash-mob that took place last week in NYC and 9 other cities, including Toronto and Portland. On a 7th Annual "No Pants" Subway-Ride day around 900 New Yorkers were riding the subway in their underwear only.
What a weird thing to do, especially in the winter time:) maybe the other day some brave people will do it in Moscow as well:) quite an experience for flash-mobbers and people around. And 1 more thing that bothers me: what was the temperature?

ps. I really doubt though that in Russian culture such an event would be even possible:(

My Global Personality Test

>> Friday, January 25, 2008

I am recently taking different tests on-line to understand better what kind of personality I am. I believe, that can really help when interacting with others around me. BTW, today I had my last exam in the winter-session (yay! now I have 1,5 weeks before my spring semester starts), and the exam was on Business Communication. I was answering the question about different personality-types, and how the knowledge of them can help while doing business and just interacting.
Below is the result of the huge (126 questions!) Global Personality test I did on-line:

Starting French language-studies: Je parle un pue francais!

>> Thursday, January 24, 2008

Bonsoir! (which means Good Evening in French:)
This week I started studying French language. I am still learning German of course, but as soon as I don't really see many practical ways to apply it, I am not that successful.
Well, I started learning French because I know exactly where and how it can help me, so my motivation is much stronger, hence I learn it faster. I already know some basic rules and simple phrases and can participate in simplest dialogues...probably...
I can say things like: Je parle anglais et un pue francais (which means: I speak English and a little French:)
It's quite an experiment, because I don't use any real people or native-speakers to teach me, but I am only studying with the help of Internet: audio on-line course "French for English-speakers" (they have a very good material there, I am already on Lesson 5!), some grammar web-sites and other useful things (like videos and music in French) that you can always find on-line.
I am looking forward to making progress fast and hope to do so.
Au revoir! (Bye for now...)

Moving on forward

>> Tuesday, January 22, 2008

Today I paid the second and last tuition for my American trip this summer, so the next step is doing the paper-work for the embassy and then having the embassy-interview around the beginning of March to get my visa.
What a relief, they told me in the office today that this year the paper-work will be easier and I won't have to fill as many papers as I did last year.
However, they also told me the Tax Return process is going to take more time, than it was previously expected, so I might not get the money I am expecting in April. They said it might take till July...hmmm...
Anyway, it's good to be already looking forward to the embassy-interview. Time is going fast:)

It might be San-Diego this summer!

>> Sunday, January 20, 2008

My friend from California Alan messaged me and offered to stay at his place in San-Diego during the summer. That really sounds like a great opportunity to me. Well, the chances of visitng Canada are kind of becoming less then, but on the other hand, I will be able to visit my friends in California and also visit Hollywood and maybe even meet some famous people and of course enjoy the ocean, beaches and sun.
Right now San-Diego is my main option, but who knows, maybe not the last one.

Dreaming about getting a holiday! (and some old pics from the summer'2006 trip to Lithuania)

>> Saturday, January 19, 2008

Oh, well, I am just in between 2 semesters at university, and it would be so sweet to go somewhere right now for a week or so, where there is ocean and beach. Ok, sea and beach would work too. I just want to relax, chill and get some suntan.
Below are some old pictures from my family' trip to Lithuania (Baltic Sea) during the summer' 2006.

House we lived in

My mom. Always looking good.

Freaking German: ICH SPRECHE GUT DEUTSCH NICHT!

>> Friday, January 18, 2008

Today is going to be my German exam, and then I only have one more which is Business Communication, and then it will be the end of Fall Semester and break!
However, that German exam totally makes me feel freaked out. It's been like 1,5 years since I've started studying it, and I hardly made any progress. I can only say simple things.
I remember this past summer, when I was flying through Zurich, where they basically speak Deutsch:), I was trying to start a conversation in German and it was hardly any success.
I especially feel odd, because I was born in Germany (in a small town by the name Pirna), so it's almost like I HAVE TO KNOW THIS LANGUAGE, and I even remember that when I was 5, I knew quite a bunch of German, but now it's all gone.
I guess the reason is that I hardly have any motivation and that is what, in my opinion, is the most important in the whole process of studying a foreign language.
I don't have any friends-native German speakers and I don't really need German in my everyday life. I wish there was someone who could talk to me in German on a regular basis, and then it would be moving somewhere.
How will I make it today?!

What might be available in Seattle...

>> Thursday, January 17, 2008

I really want to stay in Seattle during this summer (because then it will be easier for me to visit Canada), but right now I am just trying to find any cheap place in any state and city, where I can stay through the summer while in the States, through my friends and friends of their freinds and so on. I think I can find something through the Internet, but if it will be someone I know, or at least some of my friends know, then I will feel more safe about renting a place from this person.
What will be good for me is basically any room or apt or part of house or just something appropriate for living for no more than 300$/month.
Meanwhile, one of my friends sent me a link to check the available real estate for rent in Seattle, and I was quite surprised (not to say more) to find a number of good deals like this (not sure, if they are ready to rent it to a Russian, but anyway):

SEATTLE $240
Bedrooms: 2
Baths: 2
Property type: Apartment
Additional information:
Seattle
2bd 2ba home only $240/mo!
3bd 2ba home only $325/mo!
Great Deals!

Finally a job-offer

>> Wednesday, January 16, 2008

I got my first job-offer from the States. All thanks to my friend Daniel from Colorado. This one is from City Market where he works, so I already sent it to my InterExchange office so that they can check it out, and I really hope it will work out and I will get my visa without any problems.
I will be looking for other job-offers as well, because still my goal is to find a job in an area closer to Canada.

Australian Wine, Pasta & Doughnuts

>> Tuesday, January 15, 2008

Well, they totally messed my work-schedule for this week in GUM, and they put me working on the days when I can't work and didn't put me working on days, when I actually can work. Whatever...after some arguing over that issue, we came up to a decision that I only have to work on Saturday this week, so it's like having a whole week off from work!
Today and Thursday are my total days off, as I don't have any exams on these days. Means I can spend more time with friends. Tonight I went over to J&B and we had more fellowship and of course, some more food. I really liked the chocolate doughnuts.
Well, besides that, week is going pretty good so far, tomorrow I am having another test and then in the evening I will be helping J with his language-session, while his language-helper is out of town.
:):)

"THR3E" by Ted Dekker

>> Sunday, January 13, 2008

I just finished reading this book, and I can say that this is one of those few books that only makes sense in the very end of it, but the sense is really deep and the whole story makes you think.
The story is about a guy with dissociative identity disorder, who kind of creates his own world and creates people that never existed, in order to struggle with his sins and understand who he really is.
The main hero in some sense reminded me of myself, probably that's why I enjoyed reading this book so much.
I liked the last paragraph - extract from the book of Romans:
"I do not understand what I do...It is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me...For what I do is not the good I want to do;no, the evil I do not want to do - this I keep on doing...I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me...I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin...I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin".
[Bible: Romans 7:15-25]

The end of the hard week

>> Saturday, January 12, 2008

Well, I guess, that was the hardest week in the whole winter. I had 5 days of work in a row, and today I was also having an exam, so my only real day off is tomorrow.Yay!
After the exam today I had some good time with friends though - I went over to J&B and there was Julie there as well; we had yummy chicken, some nice talk and good time playing nerts and Settlers (the game that I am totally fond of - today I won one game out of two). I really care about spending some time with friends during the week - without that part I don't feel good.
I am really looking forward to tomorrow to get some more rest before another busy week.
Some news regarding my summer American trip: I got an e-mail from InterExchange yesterday; they told me I have 2 weeks to pay my second tuition and then I have to bring my embassy docs in and then I think around the beginning of March I will have an interview in the embassy and will get my visa then. From now on everything will be going really fast. I only have to find a job-offer asap.

Winter Park

Now it's getting a lot warmer here than it was several days ago, and it feels better outside. Today I visited one of my favorite parks in Moscow, almost in the downtown.
I love going there in the spring and summer, but it also proves to be a good place for a walk in the wintertime.
Very few people there, which is good for thinking and taking some pictures.
+2C coming tomorrow!!

Good day.Kind of...

>> Tuesday, January 08, 2008

It's so hard for me to wake up in the mornings, when it's so cold outside. I am willing to stay in my warm bed as long as possible. For several mornings in a row I was willing to accomplish some things before going to work, and every time I was switching off the alarm and delaying my plans.Well, today, as hard as it was, I finally managed to wake up early.
My computer is not supporting Microsoft Office format currently, so I went around searching for the Internet-cafes to send some documentation to the States. They were all closed...Maybe it's because most people are still having holidays and will only go to work tomorrow, or probably they just got frozen in their beds.:)
I still had time before work, so I went to the downtown to check the status of my account in the bank, because I was expecting some money to arrive from Colorado. And, oh miracle, the money was finally there:)
Well, I was in a good mood, especially that it was sunshining, and, no matter how cold it is, the shining sun always makes my emotions going positive.
Day at work wasn't hard as well, even though it was 8,5 hours. These days I am working almost as many hours as the full-times do.
Ok, as long as I can wake up, I can do things, and that means life is going on!
