Soccer Camp Fun:)

>> Saturday, July 19, 2008

Here is my group of boys ages 11-17. I had 28 kids; most of them, however, are 13-14. I really loved spending time with them, and I know they liked having me as a counselor too. Well, because I was so nice and kind to them and allowed them to have some real camp fun:) They were always telling me that other campers should be envious that only these guys have me. Even though this age group is supposed to be quite "loud" and "wild", we had a very friendly atmosphere in our group throughout the whole week, and I was witnessing how my boys were becoming friends with each other as well as with me. That was a really cool experience, and I even thought for a moment that maybe I need to work with teenagers age 14-15 in the future as long as I really like it. Yesterday in the morning, Denise, who is the director of the camp, even suggested hiring me for the next summer:) Well, we'll see how it goes...
And another thing that I really liked too was the last night on Thursday, when we had a dance-party and all the counselors were breaking the ice on the stage:) It was cool bringing "Sexy back" with Justin Timberlake and changing "Girlfriend" with Avril Lavigne. I think in the end of all the dancing my face was probably dripping and it felt like I just took a very wet shower:)

Here is a picture of me with a FIFA Champion EDU. Edu is a very well-known soccer-player, he is good friends with Pele, and it sounds like he won all possible championships. He is very pro-active and energetic despite the fact that he is in his 60s. This week at camp was one of the 2 Edu weeks during the summer, when Edu is an important guest at camp.

With one of my campers Joe James. He is extremely smart, and I was surprised how much he knows about Russia even though he never was there.

My group doing the Human Pyramid. Every morning we had the clean room contest when we had to present our clean room and prepare a skit or show or smth. That morning my guys made a Human Pyramid and also learnt how to say "Good Morning!" in Russian, and so we won the nomination "The Palace of the Day".

Final Day Awards Ceremony. I was so proud when our group won the nomination "The cleanest barrack of the week", because during the week we had several issues regarding our barrack being too messy, and some counselors were also telling me that my kids are not keeping the floor clean enough. By the way, one of the things I had to deal with in the camp and didn't like at all, was when other counselors were telling my kids what to do instead of watching their own group. Haha, well, it felt so good to finally beat everyone in being clean:)
